Letter to the Editor: Washington can lead with legislation
Letter to the Editor on Cap and Invest printed in The Columbian.
"I agree with K.C. Golden's March 1 guest
opinion, "Climate policy starts here." State legislators need to take
action on capping global warming emissions in Washington state. If our elected officials
can't pass the bill currently under consideration, it's going to really mess up
the prospects for federal legislation.
Without that, there's little hope for a global agreement. National action
depends on states to begin new policies.
We spent more than $16.6 billion last year importing fossil fuels to our state.
Capping emissions would keep some of that money here, investing in local
companies, creating local jobs instead of sending them to big oil's coffers..."
