Electronics Recycling: WEC teamed up environmental groups, retailers, manufactures and local governments to pass the nation's most comprehensive Electronic recycling law. This law will go into full effect in January 2009 - when all people in the state will have a location in their community to safely and responsible recycle TVs and computers for FREE. Read more....
Restoring Puget Sound:
For decades WEC has been involved in efforts to protect Puget Sound. At no point in our history has the efforts to save Puget Sound been as large....or as necessary. The Sound, our Sound, is in serious trouble. Waters are polluted. Sea life is on the edge. And the pressures are mounting. WEC is closely involved in the work to restore Puget Sound and working with the Puget Sound Partnership, other conservation groups. Check out a fun little video on youtube where Bill Ruckelshaus (pictured above) - the 1st head of the EPA under RIchard Nixon - takes a dip in the cold waters of Puget Sound to raise awareness and support WEC.
Green Buildings: Back in 2004, being "green" was not on the cover of Business Week. Al Gore hadn't won an Oscar. Green was not yet the new black. However, WEC was building the coalition to build a campaign for Green Buildings. And we were able to be successful in early 2005 passing the 1st Green Buildings law in the nation. Read more......
